Carlos Alcaraz v Taylor Fritz Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between Alcaraz and Fritz.

Alcaraz Rips Past Paul

It wasn’t like Tommy Paul did not play at a decent level in his fourth round match. Just a matter of how well Alcaraz played against him to clinch a place in the quarterfinal, winning 6-4, 6-4.

In a match lasting an hour and 38 minutes, Alcaraz registered his ninth successive straight-set win and got within three wins of defending his title in Miami.

A break of serve in the fifth game of the opening set is all that Alcaraz needed to win it. He had a couple of break-points in the next game too while himself facing his only break-point of the set – and indeed the match – as he served for it at 5-4.

The second set saw Paul save an early break-point but dropped his serve in the third game. With Alcaraz losing a total of six points on serve in the set, he eased away to winning it without too much trouble.

This follows victories over Facundo Bagnis and Dusan Lajovic who are more of clay-courters. Against Paul, who had earlier made it to the semifinal at the Australian Open, Alcaraz showed again why he is rated so highly (as can also be seen from his world ranking!)

Fritz Cruises against Rune

Fritz required even lesser time that Alcaraz on court as he carved out a straight-set win over Holger Rune in the fourth round.

The American, who has fallen from a world ranking of five earlier this season to his current 10th, was on court for an hour and 26 minutes in his 6-3, 6-4 win. In Fritz’s case, he did lose his serve early in the encounter and faced five other break-points in the first set but once they had traded breaks and gotten to 2-2 there was no looking back.

Fritz broke again in the eighth game, losing just three points on serve from 2-2. He lost a mere six more in the second set, needing just one break-point to clinch the set and subsequently the match.

Earlier in the tournament, Fritz had also won both his previous rounds in straight sets, overcoming Emilio Nava and Denis Shapovalov in the process. Now comes his biggest test in recent times.

Alcaraz v Fritz Prediction and Tip

Alcaraz isn’t just the favourite but one isn’t getting evens for even a straight-set win. We reckon it could get a touch more difficult for Alcaraz but a straight-set victory beckons again.
