Daniil Medvedev v Karen Khachanov Head to Head

There have been three previous meetings between these players at the highest level with Medvedev winning two of them. Their most recent match came at the Adelaide International player earlier this year and Medvedev was a straight-set winner.

Medvedev Doesn’t Have a Lot of Trouble against Eubanks

Christopher Eubanks had had a week to remember but even he would have known things might not get easy against one of the best players on tour at the moment in the form of Medvedev. That’s how it turned out too with Medvedev winning against his American opponent but Eubanks did put up some resistance.

For a player who was 26-3 coming into this encounter and having lost just three and six games respectively in his previous two rounds, Medvedev would have expected to steamroll past the 119th-ranked Eubanks.

As it turned out, Medvedev needed an hour and 29 minutes of court time to win 6-3, 7-5 but not before he had lost his serve once.

In fact Medvedev could have been broken early in the first set too when he faced five break-points in the fourth game but he saved those and overpowered Eubanks in the rest of the set.

In the second, Medvedev went 4-2 up only to drop his serve in the very next game. Successive holds to love followed before Medvedev won it by breaking Eubanks in the 12th game off his third break-point.

Can he continue his sterling run against a player who has been equally solid through this season?

Khachanov Routs Cerundolo

Francisco Cerundolo’s performance on clay is usually more pronounced than anywhere else but he had made it to the semifinal of this very tournament last year. This time around too, he entered the quarterfinals on the back of a win over Felix Auger-Aliassime which made him bit of a threat.

Not for Khachanov though.

Khachanov himself has looked like he is back to his best this season. Good enough to make it to the semifinals of the Australian Open earlier this year.

Good enough to defeat Stefanos Tsitsipas earlier in this tournament. And to make the semifinal here.

And he did that quite easily too, crushing his Argentine opponent’s hopes by winning 6-3, 6-2 in a match that lasted a mere hour and 16 minutes.

All of the three break-points that Khachanov faced were in the first set and he was broken once too – it was the first break of the match. From that point onward, however, there was no looking back as Khachanov broke back twice in each of the two sets to carve out the win.

Can he now tame one of the best players on tour at the moment?

Medvedev v Khachanov Prediction and Tip

While Medvedev is 2/9 to win this we believe it might not be a straightforward victory. A win but not the easiest one for Medvedev.
