Paula Badosa v Mayar Sherif Head to Head
They have never played before on the WTA circuit. Their only previous meeting came in 2013 on the ITF circuit where Sherif had won on clay.

Badosa Returns to Favourite Surface
A quarterfinalist at the French Open in 2021, Badosa had risen to second on the WTA charts last season as a result of that showing. Among others that season were her title win at Indian Wells Open and a semifinal on the clay courts of the Madrid Open.
Her performances did taper off a little last year while this season Badosa has fallen to 29th on the charts as a result of her modest 6-4 win-loss record.
That being said, she will feel confident on two counts.
One, a return to clay will give her some respite given her overall win record on red dirt is a whopping 67.9% – her best across all the surfaces.
Secondly, despite her struggles this season it’s not like she has been blown away consistently from matches. Even recently, at Miami, she put up a sterling display against Elena Rybakina before losing in three.
There’s a good chance a deep run is around the corner for Badosa and it could come in this tournament.

Sherif 3-7 for the Season
Sherif will probably heave a sigh of relief as the WTA Tour moves to its clay court swing following three months of hardcourt competitions.
Over the eight tournaments she has played this season, Sherif has won just three main draw matches and lost seven of them. At the eighth tournament she failed to make it to the main draw itself.
Fortunately for Sherif, her record on clay has been top-notch over the years. She has won three WTA titles including two on the WTA125 level and has been a finalist at one other, all of which were on clay.
And even at the lower, ITF level, Sherif’s 12 titles consist of eight on clay and three on hardcourt.
Which is why despite Badosa’s obviously brilliant pedigree, she will need to avoid getting too complacent against Sherif.
Badosa v Sherif Prediction and Tip
If Badosa is fit and can play to 80% of her capacity, she should win this but Sherif has a chance to usurp her Spanish opponent if she can get an opportunity here. Won’t be a one-sided encounter by the looks of things.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Badosa to win: 1/2 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with 888Sport)
