Our 2023 WTA Bogota Open Predictions & Picks

It could be anyone’s guess on who walks away from Colombia’s capital as champion. Last year we witnessed history unfold before our eyes at this event as two qualifiers battled each other for the prize.

It would come as a major shock should lightning strike twice again given the weak level of the qualifying draw. So a safe bet here would be to hang your hat on the seeds.

Outside the pandemic-hit 2020, Elise Mertens has averaged at least one WTA title in her locker in each of the past five seasons. And given the uneven playing field, it is hard to look past the Belgian who is the only top 50 player in the draw.

Rebecca Peterson is a player on the comeback trail and has enjoyed a highly impressive set of results in the last couple of months. Her clay-court prowess should also give her a significant edge over the rest of the field outside Mertens. She is the third seed and could potentially avoid facing the top seed until the final.
