It’s been a tale of two halves this season for Pigossi. The first consists of her performance in the six hardcourt competitions that she has participated in this year.
Pigossi has won just one match at those six and failed to qualify for the main draw of four of them.
The other half consists of her showing at the two clay court tournaments she featured in at the WTA 125 level. At both, Pigossi has looked solid and made the semifinal at the first one in Cali and the quarterfinal in San Luis Potosi this week.
It’s these two performances that have kept her within touching distance of her career-best ranking of 100th on the WTA circuit.
And with the return of the clay court season at the highest level too, Pigossi will hope she can turn things around and get past her career-best soon enough.

Samudio Yet to Win a Match This Season
Having never been ranked higher than 800th in the world in her career, Samudio may not pose much of a challenge here. That said, she would be glad to have been given a chance to participate at the highest level, having missed out on that chance over the past four occasions the tournament was played.
Other than in 2022 when she did not play in this competition, Samudio did participate in the qualifiers in 2018, 2019 and 2021 and crashed out without making it to the main draw.
That being said, it would be interesting to see how she goes here with the Colombian having not make too much of a start to the season.
She featured in three ITF tournaments in March after missing out any tennis action in the first two months, but has won just one set in total. That came last week in Sopo where she went down Mariia Tkacheva in the first round.
