Nuno Borges v Quentin Halys Head to Head

While they have never faced off at this level, they did play each other on the Futures circuit in 2015 and then in a Challenger tournament last year. Halys won in the former meeting while Borges won that Challenger match on clay.

Borges Shines on the Challenger Circuit This Season

What’s been interesting about Borges’ season so far is he hasn’t played a single match on clay and yet, carved out some of the best performances of his career.

At the highest level of competition, Borges might have won just a couple of rounds but he has made things count on the Challenger circuit. So much so he is one of the very players to have won two titles on that tour.

The first came at the Monterrey Challenger in late February before he made it two tournament wins when he clinched the title in Phoenix.

Borges now moves on to the clay court swing having done quite well on the lower circuits over the past two seasons. Last year, he had made the final of two clay court Challenger tournaments and won one title on this surface.

This year, with a much improved career-best ranking of 68th in the world, Borges will look to translate that same form over to the highest level.

Can Halys Convert Hardcourt Form to Clay?

While Halys is still 18 spots away from his career-best ranking of 61st in the world, he will come into the clay-court swing with a lot of confidence.

After all, he had had a consistent run even before coming into the Miami Masters last month – he made the quarterfinals of two events and was a semifinalist at a Challenger tournament in Phoenix – but at that ATP 1000 competition he surprised a few. May be his own self too.

The Frenchman overcame Pedro Martinez, Alex de Minaur and Mackenzie McDonald to make it to the fourth round where he was finally laid low by Daniil Medvedev.

On clay, Halys hasn’t met with a lot of success even at the lower level but he is not a total mug when it comes to the red dirt. Last season, for instance, Halys had made it to final of the Bordeaux Challenger, the semifinal of the Rome Challenger and a quarterfinal at a third.

Can he carry his form on hardcourts over to clay as well?

Borges v Halys Prediction and Tip

Borges might hold the edge but Halys can be expected to put up some sort of a fight here.
