Kiki Bertens v Johanna Konta Head to Head

The two ladies have met only thrice in their careers, two of which were in the WTA events. Currently, it’s Konta who leads the tally by 2-1, with her last win over Bertens coming in the 2017 Cincinnati Open.

Konta Starts with Promising Wins

Carrying the hopes of entire Great Britain in Indian Wells, Konta has begun her campaign on a promising note with impressive wins. In the first round, she dispatched Pauline Parmentier 6-2, 6-3 while in the second, she defeated the number 27 seed Su-Wei Hsieh 6-0, 6-2.

This is the second time this season that Konta has reached the third round on the WTA Tour. She had a similar stint in Acapulco a couple of weeks back, where she was knocked out by Donna Vekic in the quarters.

Konta spent most of 2018 struggling greatly with her form but it now appears that she is slowly finding her groove again. But her true test will start now, as the draw gets trickier by the day.

Kiki’s Career-Best Ranking

The season so far has proved to be a wonderful one for the Dutch, who is currently the World No. 7. She achieved this career-best ranking in a rather odd manner – after crashing out of WTA Dubai in the second round.

Nonetheless, it is not a bad position to be in, given that she has already won a singles title in St. Petersburg this season. Apart from that, Bertens was also a semifinalist in WTA Sydney and a quarterfinalist in Doha.

Last year, Bertens rose to prominence when she won the WTA Charleston, Korea Open, and Cincinnati Open.

She started her run in Indian Wells with an easy win over Magda Linette in the second round.

On paper, Bertens will start this match as the favourite to win. However, Konta can very well push Kiki to the limit and deliver a major upset here. Both players have the necessary experience and momentum to win here. This match can pretty much go either way.
