Sofia Kenin v Aliaksandra Sasnovich Head to Head

There have two matches between these two players at the WTA level but in the qualifying stages and they have both won one. Both came in 2017.

Kenin Hoping to Improve Clay Record

While Kenin is a former Grand Slam winner, her record on clay isn’t as good as that on other surfaces. And that is something she would like to change this season.

There are two reasons for that. The first is the obvious one – you want to keep improving as a player and want to conquer as many frontiers as possible.

The other is to do with her own struggles on the WTA charts with the American having fallen to 164th in the world after been ranked four at one point. Injuries have had a say and following her return, Kenin has struggled to get going as a result.

This year has been a slightly better one for Kenin but even then, she has had an 8-8 win-loss record. And that has been in hardcourt competitions.

On clay, this could all come crashing down for a player who last played in a tournament on this surface in June 2021. Can she overcome an opponent who can be termed as solid on this surface?

Sasnovich Seeks a Turnaround

Things haven’t quite gone Sasnovich’s way this season with the world number 49 having won just four main draw matches in 2023. In none of the tournaments did she make it past the opening round and in three others, Sasnovich failed to even enter the main draw.

That’s the negative news. What could be a silver lining is a shift to clay on which Sasnovich has done reasonably well.

Last season alone she defeated Emma Raducanu and Angelique Kerber on her way to the fourth round of the French Open and was a quarterfinalist in Hamburg. Sasnovich had been equally steady on clay in 2021 as well.

And now taking on a player whose record on red dirt isn’t the greatest will give Sasnovich the confidence to believe she can make it past her.

Kenin v Sasnovich Prediction and Tip

While Kenin starts off as a favourite with an offer of 3/5 for her win, Sasnovich will have her chances and we believe this could turn out to be a keen tussle.
