Marco Cecchinato v Fabio Fognini Head to Head
There have been four previous meetings between these two and Fognini leads 3-1. All the matches came on clay including their last meeting in Belgrade in 2022 where Fognini overturned a first set loss to win in three.

One cannot be sure how much of “stunning” that did happen in the first round given Diego Schwartzman’s recent results but the bookmakers sure had pegged Cecchinato at 21/10 in that encounter.
And the Italian won in straight sets after needing to save a set-point in the second-set against Schwartzman.
Cecchinato, who has fallen to 96th in the world, needed two hours and five minutes to usurp his much-favoured but out of form Argentine opponent, winning 6-3, 7-6 (8) to make it to the second round of an ATP tournament for only the third time this season.
He faced a whopping 12 break-points but managed to save nine of them while getting past Schwartzman’s serve on four occasions.

Fognini Blasts Giannessi
Alessandro Giannessi is ranked outside the top 200 but would have thought he had a chance against the struggling Fognini. Fognini, after all, had entered his first round match in Estoril on the back of four successive defeats and was 1-7 on win-loss for the season.
It was a different Fognini, however, who took to court in this encounter.
The world number 97 needed just 58 minutes of court time to register a 6-2, 6-1 victory, easing past his opponent’s serve on six occasions. He lost just two points on serve in the first set and while he was broken once in the second, that came when he had already taken a 3-0 lead.
In fact, Fognini broke back four times – each time that Giannessi served – to clinch the win.
