Ons Jabeur v Lesia Tsurenko Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came in the qualifiers of the 2018 WTA Dubai and Tsurenko had won that in two.

Jabeur Hopeful of a Turnaround

Fitness and form have proven to be a bit of a challenge for Jabeur this season and that has translated into a 4-4 win-loss record for the Tunisian player.

Jabeur, who hit a career-high of second on the WTA charts, enters the clay court swing with a 1-2 record in the Sunshine tournaments in March. Sure she was a finalist at this competition in Charleston last year but her form suggests she would need a few things to go her way.

For starters Jabeur would hope she is match-fit in case the encounter goes the distance.

Secondly, it’s tough enough to make that transition between hardcourts and clay but for someone who could be a tad rusty from the lack of tournament play, it might become a tad more difficult.

Form is another concern for Jabeur and she would hope to conjure up all the happy memories from Charleston 2022 where she had finished a runner-up.

Tsurenko Routs Ormaechea

Paula Ormaechea is ranked 183rd in the world and had surprised Magdalena Frech to make it to the main draw. However, Tsurenko ensured that is where she would end her Charleston 2023 campaign with a disdainful 6-1, 6-1 rout of her Argentinian opponent.

It took Tsurenko a mere 62 minutes and saw her break her opponent five times in the encounter to make it through.

Tsurenko had also faced six break-points on her own serve but saved every single one of them even as she continued to struggle with her second serves. That’s the feature of her game she will need to improve against a player of Jabeur’s calibre.

This follows a quarterfinal appearance on the clay courts of Budapest last season Tsurenko, having earlier needed to qualify for the French Open.

Can she use this result as a springboard to test the world number five?

Jabeur v Tsurenko Prediction and Tip

Jabeur is a favourite but rather surprisingly she starts off at 4/6 odds – an indicator of how unsure the bookmakers are about her game at the moment. Good odds to go with I would reckon.
