David Goffin v Filip Krajinovic Head to Head
The two have played each other three times before, with Goffin leading their personal series by two mtaches to one. However, those looking for pointers to this match may note that both the Goffin victories came on clay, in Shevingen in 2014, and at Roland Garros a year later. They met each other just a few weeks ago in Montpellier on a hard court and, on that occcasion, the Serb won in straight sets.
Goffin, Sliding Down the World Rankings
Goffin has been sliding down the world rankings in recent months, not helped by the elbow injury which forced him to miss the back end of the 2018 season.
Since then his form has been distinctly mixed. He lost to Richard Berankis of Lithuania in Doha before reaching the third round in Melbourne, where he went out at the hands of Russia’s Daniil Medvedev.
In his next tournament he exited at the hands of his opponent on Sunday in Montpellier, before more first round defeats in Rotterdam and Marseille.
Better on a clay court than on a hard surface like Indian Wells, he may struggle to make an impression on this tournament.

Krajinovic, Looking to Recover after Injury-Ravaged 2018
Although only ranked 113 in the world now, that statistic is a misleading guide to Krajinovic’s form. A year ago Krajinovic was a top-thirty player, but a series of crippling injuries to his left foot and ankle and hand, forced him to miss much of the second half of the season.
Just a look back at his record shows that he is not a man to be underestimated – in 2017 he reached the final of the Paris Masters, the lowest ranked player to do so in 14 years.
He has had to come through two qualifying matches even to reach the main draw, first defeating Ramkumar Ramanathan of India and then Lithuania’s Richard Berankis. That gave him a first round tie against Mikhail Kukushkin, surprise finalist in the Marseille Open, and he defeated him in straight sets.
