Alexander Zverev v Jan-Lennard Struff Head to Head
Struff is seven years Zverev’s senior and they have already faced off five times before this. Zverev, the world number three, has won each time including twice last year at the Monte-Carlo Masters and Munich Open. Interestingly all these matches came on clay which means the senior German might have a chance on a surface which is different from all previous ones.
Strong Start for Zverev, but Needs a Title
For a player tipped to win a Grand Slam title very soon, Zverev would be getting a tad nervy about not having won a single title this season so far. There were five title wins in 2017 and four more in 2018, and with these two big tournaments being played this month, he would love to go the distance.
Zverev did have his chances at Acapulco, where he romped into the final but came up cropper against a man in full flow, Nick Kyrgios. He managed to win just seven games before going down in that title decider.
Before that Zverev suffered a surprise exit in the Australian Open, another tournament he was expected to push on towards the latter part of the second week. A fourth round loss to Milos Raonic was least expected but what made it worse was it came in straight sets.
The German won his opener against Martin Klizan, who retired from the match in the second set, having earlier beaten Zverev’s brother Mischa.

Best Showing by Struff Already
The three times that Struff has played before this, he has never managed to reach the third round at the Indian Wells Masters. So in that sense, he has already surpassed his best showing but a top-10 scalp would be much coveted. Besides, it hasn’t been the best start to the season for Struff, having entered this tournament with a 5-6 win-loss record this year.
There was a semi-final appearance at the Auckland Open, having lost to Cameron Norrie there but that was followed by two first round and two second round defeats in the next four tournaments. Add that to another first round loss before the Australian Open – in Brisbane – and it’s a season he would love to turn around quickly.
Alexander Zverev v Jan-Lennard Struff Predictions & Tips
While Struff is 9/2 to win this match, the more pertinent market for this match would be the games market as we think he might be able to push Zverev a tad and even scalp a set of his opponent.
Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
