Alejandro Davidovich Fokina v Marco Cecchinato Head to Head

After having hit a career-high ranking of 24th in the world following his quarterfinal appearance at the Indian Wells Open and third round at the Miami Masters, Fokina kick-started his time on clay this season with a straight-set win over Luca Van Assche.
Fokina needed an hour and 54 minutes to come through but in the end he won 6-3, 7-5 to seal his quarterfinal berth.
Following an opening round bye, Fokina added to his 30-25 win-loss record on clay as he overcame a 4-2 deficit in the second set to win in two. In the first set, all he needed was one break of serve to clinch the lead.
This follows a quarterfinal appearance for Fokina in this tournament last season as well while having made the semifinal here in 2019 and 2021. Can he now emulate his career-best showing here?

Cecchinato Makes it Two Surprise Wins in a Row
After having usurped the 2/5 favourite Diego Schwartzman in the first round, Cecchinato needed to overturn a one set deficit against Fabio Fognini as he cemented his quarterfinal berth.
Cecchinato was on court for an hour and 53 minutes – not too different from Fokina’s time on court – as he claimed a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over his fellow countryman in round two.
Slamming 11 aces in the encounter, Cecchinato won 78% of his first serve points. Where he struggles was with his second serves in which he claimed just a third of those points as Fognini looked to attack that weakness. In fact in the first set, Cecchinato lost 10 of his 13 second serves.
He overcame that issue by getting more of the first serves in sets two and three and losing just four of the eight second serves in those sets. That’s where the match turned as Fognini struggled to get past Cecchinato’s serves in those.
