Cameron Norrie v Francisco Cerundolo Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two which came in Lyon in 2022 and Norrie had won that in straight sets.

Norrie Brilliant on South American Clay

Norrie was one of those few top-20 players who featured in two of the South American clay court competitions and came away with some solid performances.

He made it to the final at Buenos Aires before losing to Carlos Alcaraz but that did not deter Norrie. The British number one then proceeded to repeat the same showing in Rio but this time around he came back from a set down to defeat the same opponent.

Following those two showings in South America, Norrie returned to make it to the Indian Wells Open quarterfinals before falling early in Miami.

Norrie has won a title on clay earlier too – at Lyon, the same competition he had defeated Cerundolo last season – which gives him an edge in this one. He will know, however, that Cerundolo isn’t the easiest of opponents on clay.

Cerundolo 9-9 for the Season

Having hit a career-high ranking of 24th on the ATP charts, Cerundolo’s modest record this season has pulled him back a little. And featuring in Monte-Carlo for the first time, Cerundolo would also go in without too much of form on clay either.

With a win-loss of 19-16 on clay before this season and a title on the red dirt of Bastad last season, one would have expected Cerundolo to have done a lot better in South America this year.

He did make it to the quarterfinals of his home tournament – the Argentina Open – but fell to Bernabe Zapata Miralles at that stage. Earlier, Federido Coria had eased past him in Cordoba, and that would be followed by Zapata Miralles repeating the dose in Rio.

Making matters was Cerundolo’s opening exit from the Santiago Open as he went down to fellow Argentine Tomas Etcheverry.

Now he faces the in-form Norrie whose record on clay has only improved with time, so much so that he has overcome the world number one once this year on the same surface. Can Cerundolo put up any kind of a fight?
