Who is Playing at the 2023 ATP Monte-Carlo Masters?
The 2023 ATP Estoril Open boasts a 56-man field, led by the top seed and World No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
Perhaps, it is also fitting to list the names of the absentees, which include the most decorated player in the tournament’s history Rafael Nadal, his countryman Carlos Alcaraz, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov, and Gael Monfils.
And there are quite a handful of names currently competing in Houston who are also set to pull out from Monte Carlo due to scheduling reasons.
Stefanos Tsitsipas, the winner of the last two editions, calls Monte Carlo a second home, will be the number two seed, and will be joined by Daniil Medvedev and Casper Ruud in rounding up the top four seeds in the draw.
Former champion Stan Wawrinka and two-time French Open runner-up Dominic Thiem have been confirmed as wild-card entrants.

Our 2023 ATP Monte-Carlo Masters Predictions & Picks
Statistically, Novak Djokovic is the second-best clay-court player in the past 15 years. Now that Rafael Nadal is out of contention in Monte Carlo, Djokovic will be the man to beat at the Principality.
The Serbian star has landed in the same quarter of the draw as Italy’s Next Gen star Jannik Sinner. And he could play one of Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, or Holger Rune in the semifinal. With that said, Djokovic would still be a strong favorite in any matchup against that pack.
Much of Stefanos Tsitsipas’ progress will depend on whether his shoulder is operating to full fitness. He struggled with his execution and placement in both Indian Wells and Miami. If Tsitsipas has recovered, I can’t see anyone challenging the two-time champion in his half of the draw.
But I’m going to go against the grain here and pick Andrey Rublev to surprise a few people. The Russian is a former finalist here (lost to Tsitsioas in 2021), and could potentially meet the Greek in the semis.
Rublev would be pleased with his side of the draw. he completely avoids Djokovic, Medvedev, Zverev, Norrie, and Holger Rune until the final.
Tsitsipas has probably the most challenging route to the last four, with a likely banana peel against Bernanbe Zapata Miralles to start his title defense. Then his path could look like this: Coric, Fritz, Rublev just to get to the final. And that again depends on whether he can play pain-free during the week.
