Hubert Hurkacz v Laslo Djere Head to Head

Hurkacz Toppled in Estoril Opener

Despite being a seeded player with an opening bye and who was a 2/5 favourite in his second round match in Estoril against Bernabe Zapata Miralles, Hurkacz failed to take advantage and fell to his Spanish opponent.

This was after he had stumbled to an opening set by winning it in a tie-breaker. Hurkacz failed to hold on to his nerves after that and capitulated to an easy defeat.

He now enters a tournament where he made the quarterfinal last season, defeating Hugo Dellien, Pedro Martinez and Albert Ramos-Vinolas before losing to Grigor Dimitrov.

Overall, Hurkacz has an 18-23 record in main draws on clay, an indicator it hasn’t been his most preferred surface having won 60% of his matches on other surfaces.

Can Hurkacz overcome his slow start to the clay court swing by getting the better of a player who has had a 4-3 record on this surface this year?

Djere’s Already Featured in the South American Swing

Djere has made mixed returns to the season so far, and that can be seen from his win-loss record of 10-8. And it’s not about that scoreline, but the fact that he has been consistently getting off the blocks in competitions but has been equally consistent in being unable to go the distance.

In the eight tournaments that Djere has played this year, he has been ousted in the opener just once. At the same time, he’s won successive matches in a competition on just two occasions, losing in the second round a whopping five times.

A two-time ATP winner, both of Djere’s career titles have come on clay.

Which can also be seen from his showing this season, where he played in Buenos Aires, Rio and Santiago and won four of the seven matches he’s featured in. Can he surprise the world number 12?

Hurkacz v Djere Prediction and Tip

While we also reckon Hurkacz starts a favourite like the bookmakers who are starting out at 1/2 we would also like to see how he starts off on clay. His defeat to Zapata Miralles makes us want to wait before putting a punt on his win here.
