Stefanos Tsitsipas v Benjamin Bonzi Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players and Tsitsipas has won them both. Both came last year on grass.

Tsitsipas Returns with Weak Record Since Australian Open

The two-time defending champion Tsitsipas will have a task on his hands when he returns to Monte-Carlo with a slightly underwhelming form under his belt.

Having made it to the final of the Australian Open, Tsitsipas followed it up with just two wins from the following five matches including an opening loss at the Indian Wells Masters.

The good news for Tsitsipas is his form on clay last season was extraordinary.

Featuring in five tournaments including the Monte-Carlo Masters, Tsitsipas had won 17 matches and lost just four. It also included a finals appearance at the Rome Masters where he went down to Novak Djokovic.

And even that had followed a 23-5 win-loss on clay in 2022 where he had clinched the title in Monte-Carlo and followed it up with a final at Barcelona Open, a title win in Lyon and another final at Roland-Garros.

Can he extend that form from the past two years here too?

Bonzi Shocks Zapata Miralles

Bernabe Zapata Miralles had been in some good form coming into this year’s Monte-Carlo Masters, having reached the quarterfinal of the Estoril Open last week. Add his semifinal appearances at both, the Rio Open and Argentina Open and one could be excused for backing him to win this against Bonzi.

Bonzi had other ideas though.

Having crashed out of the Marrakesh Open second round fixture against Pavel Kotov, Bonzi registered a 6-1, 7-5 win over Zapata Miralles in his opener here despite being 7/4 to come through.

In a match lasting an hour and 26 minutes, Bonzi lost his serve twice – both of which came in the second set – and even squandered three match-points before serving it out to 15 to win the encounter.

He will hope to reverse his poor scoreline against Tsitsipas but on a surface that the Greek number one likes, it could well be an onerous task.

Tsitsipas v Bonzi Prediction and Tip

Tsitsipas will be a heavy favourite and we will back him to win this easily and in two.
