Grigor Dimitrov v Ben Shelton Head to Head

This will be a first meeting between the two.

Dimitrov was a Semifinalist Last Year

A semifinalist last year, Grigor Dimitrov comes into this year’s tournament with a 9-6 season record behind him.

The Bulgarian had a final four finish in Rotterdam and was a quarterfinalist in Marseille. Most recently he went down in the third round in Miami.

Dimitrov will be playing his first clay court tournament of the season. Two of his 15 ATP finals have come on clay, with the eight time champion winning one and losing one.

In Monte-Carlo, Dimitrov will be making his 10th appearance. He has been a semifinalist twice and lost in the quarterfinals two times. Last year, he had knocked out Casper Ruud in the round of 16 and Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinals before falling to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the semifinal.

Ranked no. 26, the former no. 3 will be hoping to make a deep run once again this season.

Shelton Set for Monte-Carlo Debut

This year’s surprise Australian Open quarterfinalist is set to make his debut in Monte-Carlo.

The 20-year-old world no. 39 will be playing just his second clay court tournament at the tour level. He played his first in Estoril last week and won his first round match against Constant Lestienne but went down to Dominic Thiem in the round of 16.

The left-hander has played very little on clay even at the lower level and it will be a huge challenge against a seasoned campaigner like Dimitrov in the opener.

Shelton brings a 7-8 season record into the tournament.

Dimitrov v Shelton Prediction and Tip

Dimitrov is vastly experienced and has a good record in Monte-Carlo and on clay in general. It will be a test for the 20-year-old Shelton. Expect the Bulgarian to start with a win.
