Zapata Miralles Has Looked Good on Clay This Year

After making a first round exit from the tournament on his debut last year, Bernabe Zapata Miralles will be hoping for a better showing this year. He is an excellent clay court player and also in terrific form on the surface.

While he lost all five of his hard court matches this season, he is 9-4 on clay. He also reached his maiden ATP semifinal in Buenos Aires and then followed it up with another semifinal in Rio. But he couldn’t reach a maiden final, falling to Carlos Alcaraz in the former and Cameron Norrie in the latter.

The world no. 43 also reached the quarterfinal in Estoril last week, defeating the second seed Hubert Hurkacz in the round of 16. But it was Miomir Kecmonovic who ended his run in the tournament.

Overall, the Spaniard is 9-9 this season. He will look to improve that record with a good start in Monte-Carlo on Monday.

Bonzi Has Played in Two Finals in 2023

World no. 50 Benjamin Bonzi will also be making his second appearance in Monte-Carlo this year with hopes of winning the first match in the tournament on Monday. Last year, he went down in the first round to Dan Evans after making the main draw as a lucky loser.

Bonzi is 11-8 this season and has featured in his first two ATP finals this year. The first was in Pune, where he finished runner-up to Tallon Groekspoor. The second was in the indoor tournament in Marseille, where he went down to Hubert Hurkacz in the final.

He has played in one clay court tournament this year in Marrakesh, where he began with a first round win over Alexey Vatutin, but fell in the round of 16 to Pavel Kotov.

Bonzi is a decent clay court player and has done well in the lower level tournaments, winning two of his seven Challenger titles on the surface.

Zapata Miralles v Bonzi Prediction and Tip

Zapata Miralles’ clay court form gives him the edge in this contest. Bonzi will make things difficult but the Spaniard should edge through.
