Nicolas Jarry v Alexei Popyrin Head to Head

Jarry and Popyrin will be facing off for the first time in a competitive encounter.

Jarry Eases Past Coric

Known primarily for his performances on clay, Jarry did not waste too much in getting past Borna Coric in the first round here.

Despite starting out as a favourite, Coric failed to earn even a single break-point in the entire match as Jarry lost a mere seven points on serve.

On the other hand, Jarry got the better of the Croat’s serve thrice from the six chances he got – twice in the first set and once in the second – to ease his way past him in an hour and 18 minutes.

Earlier this season, Jarry had already added to his ATP title count by clinching the Santiago Open with wins over Juan Pablo Varillas, Diego Schwartzman, Jaume Munar and Tomas Etcheverry – four solid dirtballers. As a qualifier he had earlier made the semifinal at the Rio Open as well before taking Carlos Alcaraz to a third set.

Popyrin Tames Lajovic

Dusan Lajovic was a lucky loser entering his first round match but against Popyrin whose record on clay has been anything but stellar, he had started off a 2/5 favourite.

As it turned out, Popyrin ensured an easy win came his way as he slammed 13 aces and saved all five of the break-points he faced to seal his second round spot. In turn, he failed to break Lajovic in the first set but eased to a 7-1 win in the tie-breaker.

The second set saw Lajovic save five break-points in the second game but was unable to save the one he faced in the third. From that point onward, Popyrin endured break-points in each of his service games including one when he served for the match, saving each one of them.

Off the second match-point he got, the Aussie won the match and advanced to the next round.

He will know things get a lot tougher here but confidence looks to be his middle name at the moment.

Jarry v Popyrin Prediction and Tip

Not surprisingly, Jarry starts off a favourite and we will have to back him for a win here. Might even be done in two easy sets.
