Andrey Rublev v Jaume Munar Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two players which came at the Winston-Salem Open in 2018. It was Munar who had won that one.

They faced off at the ATP Next Gen Finals too in the same year where Rublev got a bit of a revenge.

Rublev Would Have Hoped to Do Better in Sunshine Swing

A quarterfinal appearance at the Australian Open and a final in Dubai makes it a decent year for Rublev so far but other than that, he has struggled to go deep into tournaments. His biggest disappointments would be his performances at both, the Indian Wells and the Miami Open.

Losses to Cameron Norrie and Jannik Sinner in the fourth round of both those competitions would have left Rublev slightly nonplussed, more so because of the manner in which they came.

They were 6-2, 6-4 defeats in both those matches, easy routs for his opponents.

Coming into the clay swing, Rublev has had a solid season on dirt last year, having won a title in Belgrade where he defeated Novak Djokovic in the final. Later, he would go on to make the quarterfinals at the French Open as well but rather surprisingly, he would lose to Marin Cilic there.

He starts off here against a player who has never been in the top 50, but one who loves his time on clay.

Munar in a Scratchy Tussle against Huesler

He was a 1/2 favourite coming up against Marc-Andrea Huesler in the first round but Munar was stretched to three sets and nearly three hours to clinch his place in the second round.

Munar won 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-4 in a match that saw neither player holding on to their serve with too much ease. There were 16 breaks of serves – eight apiece – and only four of the 32 games were won to love.

The third set was the worst of the lot as far as serving woes were concerned.

Huesler broke Munar three times in a row and dropped his serve once to give him a 4-1 lead. He should have been able to close it out from that point onward but Munar came into his own to get the better of his opponent three times in a row to win it 6-4.

This follows a second round appearance from Munar in Marrakesh last week. Can he go beyond?

Rublev v Munar Prediction and Tip

While Munar does well on clay, we will have to go with Rublev for an easy win as he looks to overturn his mediocre start to the season.
