Dan Evans v Ilya Ivashka Head to Head

While these two have never faced off at the highest level of any competition, they have played each other otherwise. Once on the Challenger circuit and another time in the qualifiers of the 2018 Wimbledon.

Evans won both times.

Evans Finally Shows Some Form

After struggling through most part of the season before the start of the European clay court swing, Evans finally showed signs of some resurrection at the Marrakesh Open last week.

The British number two came through in first two rounds in straight sets, defeating Alexei Popyrin and Andrea Vavassori to enter the quarterfinals. Evans then took the opening set of his last eight encounter against Roberto Carballes Baena but fell to a three-set loss.

Still, a quarterfinal appearance on clay, a surface that Evans typically doesn’t enjoy too much but even more so in a season where he had won a mere three matches and lost nine before that.

The advantage Evans has here is his opponent has had his own struggles on clay as the Brit has himself had.

Ivashka Makes Through the Qualifiers

While Ivashka can hold his own on hardcourt surfaces, he has recorded a shock win over Alexander Zverev on the clay courts of Munich in 2021. Last year, he also overcame the 10th-ranked Hubert Hurkacz at the US Open.

On clay, however, his overall record isn’t the best in the business. He has a 13-17 win-loss which gives him a win percentage of 43.3% as compared to 54% elsewhere.

Which is also why Ivashka had come into his second qualifier match against Taro Daniel as a second favourite, with bookmakers starting him out at 6/5 in that encounter.

He had his chances to finish it off in straight sets but Daniel proved to be a hard nut to crack and the match went into a decider before Ivashka came through.

And now in a battle between two relatively less strong players on clay, Ivashka will know he will have his chances, despite again starting out at 6/5.

Evans v Ivashka Prediction and Tip

While Evans starts off a favourite it won’t be a straightforward one for him. Expecting him to face a daunting task that takes the match to a third set.
