Grigor Dimitrov v Jiri Lehecka Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two and both came last season. Dimitrov won at the Australian Open while Lehecka came through in Stockholm.

Dimitrov Edges Through against Shelton

Ben Shelton’s game hasn’t quite developed on clay and while Dimitrov himself isn’t quite a dirtballer, his experience really helped in his opening round win over his American opponent.

Dimitrov came through to the second round by overcoming the Shelton challenge in two hours and 12 minutes, winning 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.

What was so fascinating about the victory was that Dimitrov lost his serve just once, having faced only two break-points. On the other hand, he had 18 opportunities to get the better of Shelton’s serve but broke his opponent only three times – which was enough for him to register his victory.

This came on the back of just two wins from his previous six matches for Dimitrov, so while he had gone into the encounter as a 1/5 favourite there was no doubting there could have been a confidence issue for the Bulgarian.

Can he now take down a player who has seen a remarkable rise in his fortunes over the last 12 months?

Lehecka Eases Past Ruusuvuori

A little over 12 months ago, Lehecka was ranked 143rd in the world but has done remarkably well over this period to climb up to his career-best ranking of 37th (currently 42nd).

Most of his success, however, has been down to his performances on hardcourt surfaces, not so much on clay. Which is why it was a touch surprising to see him start a 3/5 favourite in his opener against Emil Ruusuvuori.

As it turned out, the bookmakers were right. Lehecka did not face too many worries as he romped to a 6-1, 7-5 win over Ruusuvuori in a match lasting an hour and 32 minutes to enter round two of this tournament for the first time in his career.

After a straightforward first set, Lehecka found himself down a break on two occasions but prevented Ruusuvuori from serving out the set. He broke his Finnish opponent in the ninth and 11th games respectively and marched on.

Dimitrov v Lehecka Prediction and Tip

Not much to choose between these two players with Dimitrov starting out a 5/6 favourite as things stand right now. We could see a third set in this.
