Andrey Rublev v Karen Khachanov Head to Head

At the highest level, they have faced off three times and Khachanov leads 2-1 with Rublev having won in their last meeting in Halle in 2021. They have never played on grass before this.

Rublev Needs Three Sets against Munar

Rublev would have expected to come through rather easily in his second round match against Jaume Munar but playing in his first match on clay for the season, it was evident to see his struggles.

The Russian, who had earlier made it to the final at the Dubai Open, was on court for two hours and 17 minutes as he shrugged off the loss of the first set in the process. He won 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

It was Rublev’s serving that didn’t quite get going in the opening set as he fell from being 3-1 up to get broken twice to lose the set. Back with a vengeance, Rublev broke Munar thrice in the second set before dropping his serve once more but by then the set was all but captured.

And then in the decider, a now-resurgent Rublev got the better of Munar’s serve in the third and seventh game to make it through to round three.

The 2021 finalist here will now look to better his showing from the previous season where he had lost to Jannik Sinner in the third round.

Khachanov Eases Past Ivashka

It took Khachanov a while to get settled in but once he had, the Russian made it past Ilya Ivashka with relative ease. In a match lasting an hour and 41 minutes, Khachanov defeated Ivashka 7-6 (2), 6-2 to advance to round three.

Khachanov did have his problems with his serve as he faced three break-points apiece in each of the two sets. That said, however, he managed to save them all and broke his opponent twice in the second to come away with the win.

This followed another solid victory over the in-form Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in a match which barely troubled Khachanov in round one.

And both of these wins point to how well Khachanov has been playing, working his way into some kind of rhythm before this big clash. We think he might have a chance here despite being bit of a second-favourite.

Rublev v Khachanov Prediction and Tip

While Khachanov is 1/1 to win this we think he has a good chance to extend his positive win-loss record against Rublev here. Backing Khachanov for the victory.
