Jannik Sinner v Lorenzo Musetti Head to Head

In their only previous meeting indoors, Sinner had won in straight sets.

Musetti Stuns Djokovic

That Musetti was in form wasn’t in doubt. Not too many players manage three bagels in four sets, something he had done in the tournament so far.

That he was playing probably the greatest male player of all times wasn’t in doubt either and that showed in the odds too, what with Novak Dokovic starting out a whopping 1/6 favourite in the match.

But nearly three hours into the encounter, Musetti surprised the world – and probably his own self – with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 win over the world number one to enter the quarterfinal of this tournament for the first time in his career.

It was a bizarre match which saw Djokovic lose his serve a whopping eight times – rarely a statistic you would associate with Djokovic even while he’s playing someone like Rafael Nadal.

In turn he got the better of Musetti’s serve on six occasions but when it really mattered in the third set, it was the Italian who ran away with it.

Given Musetti’s form it would be tough to count him out in his last eight encounter against Sinner.

Sinner Saves Match-Point against Hurkacz

Starting out as a favourite against Hubert Hurkacz, Sinner was on the back-foot for most part of the first two sets before turning things around and winning his third round match.

Sinner needed nearly two and a half hours to send Hurkacz packing, winning 3-6, 7-6 (6), 6-1 in a topsy-turvy second round encounter.

After falling a set down thanks to a break of serve in his very first game, Sinner found himself 2-1 down in the second having been broken in the third game of that set too. He retaliated with a break back in the very next game and had a set-point in the 12th game only for the set to move into the tie-breaker.

Having eased past Diego Schwartzman in the second round, Sinner found himself unable to get past Hurkacz’s serve in the tie-breaker till the very end. In fact in a rather unique few minutes that followed, neither player got a mini-break till 6-6 in the tie-breaker, with Hurkacz missing out on a match-point off Sinner’s serve.

It was at that stage that Sinner held on to go 7-6 ahead and then broke Hurakcz to take the match into a decider.

And from that point on, Sinner raced away to three breaks of serves to finish off the set in 34 minutes. Can he now emulate his showing in the previous season’s Monte-Carlo Masters where he had made the last eight stage?

Sinner v Musetti Prediction and Tip

Musetti could do a lot of damage given the manner in which he’s playing and we are backing him to win a set at the very least here.
