Fritz Stuns Tsitsipas

Fritz is ranked 10th in the world to Stefanos Tsitsipas’ third but more vitally, the American is more known for his performances on the quicker hardcourt surfaces. on clay, he is solid without being extravagant and coming up against the two-time defending champion Tsitsipas, he was the second-favourite.

A mere hour and 12 minutes later, Fritz had demolished Tsitsipas in straight sets to seal his first ever Masters 1000 semifinal showing on clay.

The American won 6-2, 6-4 to enter the last four, as he got past the Greek number one’s serve a whopping four times in the encounter.

Fritz was two breaks up in the first three games of the match and while the two traded breaks in the seventh and eighth games of the second set, the American broke right back in the ninth to forge ahead.

With wins over Stan Wawrinka and Jiri Lehecka already under his belt in the tournament, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he starts off this match against Rublev with oodles of confidence.

Rublev Ends Struff’s Journey

Rublev had some trouble in the second set but came through with overall ease in his quarterfinal against Jan-Lennard Struff. He won 6-1, 7-6 (5) in a match lasting an hour and 39 minutes.

Rather interestingly, Rublev lost his serve in the very first game of the match but broke back three times in a row to finish off his opponent in the first set.

In the second, Rublev did take a lead in the seventh game with a break but dropped his serve in the very next game.

No more break-points followed and while the two players remained neck in neck in the ensuing tie-breaker, Rublev inched forward with a 5-3 lead and while he missed one match-point at 6-4, he clinched it off the next.

With previous wins over Jaume Munar and Karen Khachanov in the tournament so far, Rublev has moved to within a victory of emulating his 2021 performance at the Monte-Carlo Masters. Can he take down a player who holds a superb record against him?

Fritz v Rublev Prediction and Tip

While Rublev is a better clay-court player than the American, Fritz’s form makes him a tempting option to win this.
