Dominic Thiem v Constant Lestienne Head to Head

They have only faced off once before this and that came at the 2012 Rennes Challenger where Thiem had won.

Thiem Showing Some Sparkle Again

After the kind of start that Thiem had had to the season where he lost nine of the 10 matches he played to kick-start 2023, the Austrian has shown he still has it in him in Estoril and Monte-Carlo to an extent.

Thiem defeated Stefan Ofner and Ben Shelton in the first two rounds at the Estoril Open and then overcame Richard Gasquet at the Monte-Carlo Masters in the first round.

The loss to Quentin Halys at the former would have been a surprise but then again, Thiem hasn’t won back to back matches on tour before this in 2023. At Monte-Carlo, he was put to sword by Holger Rune but according to expert reports he looked to have played reasonably.

Not well enough to break into the top 20 but decently good enough to take down most players ranked outside the top 50.

And that’s what Thiem would like to carry on in this competition in Munich.

Lestienne on a Seven-Match Losing Streak

Having made it to the semifinal at the Auckland Open earlier this season, Lestienne had then made the second round at the Australian Open.

Since then, however, Lestienne has not won a match. What makes it worse for him is he has lost to players ranked lower than him. Like at Montpellier, he went down to Nikoloz Basilashvili.

More recently, Lestienne failed to make it past the qualifiers at the Monte-Carlo Masters as he fell to Luca Nardi.

Adding to Lestienne’s troubles is his poor form on clay, with the Frenchman having played three main draw encounters on dirt and lost all of them.

Can he now take advantage of Thiem’s struggles?

Thiem v Lestienne Prediction and Tip

Thiem will be an overwhelming favourite at 3/10 but what needs to be seen is if he can start off positively. We would still back him to win but refrain from betting on the margin of win.
