Etcheverry Looking Confident
Tomas Martin Etcheverry of Argentina, age 23, made his ATP Tour debut just two years ago in Delray Beach.
Now, he is the current World No. 59 – a career-best feat for him – and by the looks of it, he is just getting started. Tomas is now 14-9 in 2023 with his most recent success coming in the ATP Houston where he was the runner-up (loss to Frances Tiafoe). It was a commendable feat as he had to play four matches in two days due to rain, and managed to put up quite a show.
It was Etcheverry’s second ATP final of the season, the other being the Chile Open where he fell to Nicolas Jarry in the title match.
Here in Barcelona, the Argentinean should be optimistic about his prospects. He is more than comfortable on clay – considering that his last two seasons have been successful due to his deep runs in clay tournaments.

Andujar in a Rut
Former world number 32, current #322 Pablo Andujar of Spain is coming off a bleak spell that has put his year-to-date tally at 1-7. A runner-up in Barcelona in 2015, Andujar has fallen on tough times since with his last ATP final coming in Morocco in 2019.
The 37-year-old has gone without a win in his last two tournaments, losing in the opening matches of the Girona Challenger and ATP Marrakech qualifiers.
Andujar’s one and only victory of the season came in Indian Wells, where he defeated Nuno Borges in the opening qualifying match.
With no wind in his sails, Pablo faces the tough task of beating a player who has not only got a decade’s worth of time on his side but is also in far better form with plenty of momentum.
Etcheverry v Andujar Prediction and Tip
Expect this match to go Etcheverry’s way; he has got everything going on for him at the moment. It is hard to imagine him succumbing to Pablo, but he may face some resistance.
