Dusan Lajovic v Filip Krajinovic Head to Head

There have been four previous meetings between these two players and both have won two apiece. More vitally, Lajovic has won both their matches on clay.

Lajovic Solid on Clay in 2023 Despite Early Monte-Carlo Exit

It wasn’t the best of resumptions on clay for Lajovic when he lost in the qualifiers of the Monte-Carlo Masters before losing again in the first round there after making it through as a lucky loser.

What made the two defeats worse is the kind of opposition he was up against.

In the second qualifying round, Lajovic was a 7/20 favourite going up against Ugo Humbert and blew away a first set win to fall in three. He should have then won against Alexei Popyrin who isn’t known for his performances on clay, having also started off a 9/5 underdog in that encounter.

Lajovic lost in straight sets there.

Now, this could well be a case of aberration with Lajovic having otherwise had a solid season of clay court tennis. In three out of the four South American tournaments, Lajovic had made the quarterfinal stage, losing to Carlos Alcaraz at two of them. Both were fighting losses.

Can he turn things around his fellow Serb opponent here?

Krajinovic Meets Similar Fate at Monte-Carlo

Rather coincidentally, Krajinovic also needed to go through the qualifiers to make it to the main draw at the Monte-Carlo Masters but like Lajovic fell in the second qualifying round.

He was then invited to feature in the main draw as a lucky loser, much like Lajovic but went down fighting to Roberto Bautista-Agut in the first round.

That’s not where the coincidence ends, however, with Krajinovic possessing a 49% win record in his career on clay. That’s the same as Lajovic too!

That being said, Krajinovic did not travel to South America earlier this year to feature on clay and that means he hasn’t played a lot of matches on dirt this year. Combine that with his mere three wins all season at the highest level, it would be safe to assume that Krajinovic hasn’t been in the best of nicks.

Lajovic v Krajinovic Prediction and Tip

Lajovic will be our pick to come through here and while there might be a tussle in one of the sets, we expect him to win in two.
