Djere Is 4-4 on Clay in 2023
Knocked out in the first round of the Monte-Carlo Open by Hubert Hurkacz, Laslo Djere will look to put the disappointment behind him with a good start in Banja Luka.
Ranked no. 62 in the world, the Serb is 10-9 overall this year and 4-4 on clay.
Djere’s best this season included two quarterfinal finishes, one on hard court in Auckland and another on clay in Santiago.
He got his third top 10 win of his career in January, beating the then-world no. 3 Casper Ruud in Auckland.
Djere has a 2-2 record in ATP finals and is 2-1 in clay court finals. The 27-year-old has had a mixed bag season so far, but he will look to find some consistency in his game in Banja Luka.

Safiullin Struggling at the Moment
Facing Djere is world no. 104 Roman Safiullin, who is 1-5 at the tour level this year.
Overall he is 12-10 across levels, but has won just one match in the main draw of the tour level, beating Mikael Ymer in the first round in Adelaide.
Safiullin, however, won a Challenger title this year, defeating Vasek Pospisil in the final of Koblenz Challenger. It was the fourth Challenger final of his career and he has won all four of them.
At the Tour level, the 2015 Australian Open junior champion has never reached a final yet. He had started the season at no. 88 in the world, but he fell to no. 100 before climbing back the ranking only to fall out of the top 100 once again.
The Russian is struggling at the moment and it will be a huge task for him to go past the first round.
Djere v Safiullin Prediction and Tip
Djere is a quality clay court player and has been in better form than Safiullin at the top level this year. Expect the Serb to reach the second round for a meeting with third seed Borna Coric, who has a first round bye.
