Emma Raducanu v Jelena Ostapenko Head to Head

Ostapenko leads 1-0, triumphing over Raducanu in the 2022 WTA Seoul semifinal. The Latvian led 4-6, 6-3, 3-0 before Emma retired from the match due to injury.

Raducanu Building Her Game

Emma Raducany is hard at work as she looks to improve her game, day after day.

Since winning her sole WTA title in the historic US Open 2021, the 20-year-old has had to navigate a new world of expectations, fame, and pressure. All things considered, she has done the best she can.

Although Raducanu ended last year at 17-19, it helped her gain experience. She may have carried that same rhythm to this season too, as she arrived in Stuttgart 5-4.

In her defence, she did have to play some big guns like Coco Gauff and Bianca Andreescu early on. Her notable result came in Indian Wells, where she fell to Iga Swiatek in the fourth round.

The current #68 may not be pleased with starting against Ostapenko, but beating her is certainly not an impossible job.

Ostapenko in Fine Form

By contrast, Jelena Ostapenko is brimming with a record of 12-8 in 2023, supported by mid-round stints in Miami and Indian Wells. Her best result, of course, remains as the quarterfinal showing in the Australian Open.

Like Emma, Ostapenko too has had to settle for defeats against some big names – Jessica Pegula, Aryna Sabalenka, and Elena Rybakina. That said, she was also handed shock losses in Adelaide by Irina-Camelia Begu and Anna Kalinskaya.

Nonetheless, the Latvian finds herself in a comfortable place and is set to start in Stuttgart from a position of dominance. Interestingly, she won her one and only clay title back in 2017 at the French Open. Suffice to say, this surface is not her strongest suit.

Ostapenko v Raducanu Prediction and Tip

Ostapenko is the clear favourite but do not be quick to dismiss Raducanu. She did reach the quarterfinal here last season; with some confidence, she may very well do it again. Expect an entertaining match.
