Alexander Shevchenko v Lorenzo Giustino Head to Head

They have never faced off at the highest level. Earlier this year they had played in the Tenerife Challenger and Shevchenko had won it.

Shevchenko Coming off Challenger Title Win

It’s been a year to remember for Shevchenko. Not so long ago in 2022, he was ranked 328th in the world but he enters this tournament having broken into the top 100 on the ATP Rankings charts.

This has been thanks to his performance on the Challenger circuit where Shevchenko has won two titles – one the Tenerife and another last week in Madrid. That Madrid Challenger victory came on clay too, giving Shevchenko a good chance to do well here.

Shevchenko enters this tournament having never won a main draw match at the ATP level before this.

What makes his task of opening his account on this circuit is the fact that Shevchenko will be up against a qualifier who is ranked 223rd in the world.

Giustino Solid on Clay at Lower Level

Nine of Giustino’s 10 titles on the Futures and Challengers tour have come on clay. This makes him a strong contender coming into this encounter, especially with Giustino having won successive qualifiers to get here.

Those two wins give Giustino a chance to double his main draw win count with the Italian having won just one match in his career at the highest level.

Giustino did show what he’s capable of when he toppled the favourite Otto Virtanen in the first qualifier of this tournament before edging past Geoffrey Blancaneaux in the second.

He will be up against it when he faces the in-form Shevchenko in this match but can be expected to give it his best shot.

Shevchenko v Giustino Prediction and Tip

Such opportunities of making the second round are rare for both and we can expect the two players to fight tooth and nail to get there. Backing Shevchenko but not before he has been pushed to the wall.
