Karen Khachanov v Nicolas Jarry Head to Head
Khachanov had beaten Jarry in their only previous meeting which came at the 2017 French Open.

In what was his first clay court competition of the season, the in-form Khachanov looked to have started off with successive wins in the first two rounds.
Those victories, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Ilya Ivashka, pointed to Khachanov having finally come of age even as he shifted from the hardcourt competitions to clay.
Unfortunately for Khachanov, he met Andrey Rublev in the third round and fell in two sets too, losing 7-6 (4), 6-2. Rublev would go on to win the title.
Overall, Khachanov does not have a very bad record on clay, having won 56% of his matches on it which isn’t too different from his record in hardcourt competitions. However, against the really good dirtballers, he has struggled at times and that could be something to watch here against Jarry.

Jarry Doesn’t Have a Lot of Problems against Trungelliti
Marco Trungelliti did his best to try and disrupt Jarry’s rhythm in their first round encounter but in the end it was the Chilean who came through and made the second round.
Jarry carved out a 7-5, 6-3 win over Trungelliti in a match lasting an hour and 50 minutes to make it to the second round of a competition for the fifth time this season.
The winner of the Santiago Open and a semifinalist in Rio after starting out as a qualifier, Jarry lost his serve in the very first game of the match but did not face another break-point in the encounter.
He retaliated with a break back in the second game and from that point took control of the match. At 5-6 in the first set, he got his first set-point – off Trungelliti’s serve – and converted it.
In the second set, Jarry had chances to break his opponent in the second and fourth games before finally doing that in the eighth.
Khachanov will be a different kettle of fish but Jarry will know he won’t be out of it.

This could turn out to be a tough match that sees neither player really walk into it with a huge advantage. Khachanov’s overall form gives him a slight edge but only that much.
