Stefanos Tsitsipas v Alex de Minaur Head to Head

This is a rivalry that goes a long way with the two having faced off on the Challenger circuit on a couple of occasions, in the qualifier of an event in Istanbul and in the Next Gen Finals. Other than that there have been seven meetings between these players on the ATP circuit too and overall, Tsitsipas leads 10-1.

Tsitsipas Blows Shapovalov Away

After a straight-set win over Pedro Cachin in the previous round, Tsitsipas wasted no time in getting past Denis Shapovalov in the third round. The Greek number one ended Shapovalov’s stay in the tournament in a mere hour and 17 minutes to make it to the last eight.

Tsitsipas broke his Canadian opponent four times in the match – twice in each set – to carve out a 6-3, 6-2 win. He faced a mere two break-points, saving them both even as he won 73% of his first serves and 63% of the second.

The first set was a bit of a cakewalk for Tsitsipas as he broke Shapovalov in the third game and then again when his opponent to stay in the set.

It became a lot easier for Tsitsipas in the second set and while he faced two break-points in the seventh game, the match was all but over by then.

Can he continue his dominant run against his Aussie opponent now?

de Minaur Gets a Dimitrov Walkover

It has been a rather underwhelming week for Dimitrov, who first lost had his watch valued  €70,000, then got past Emilio Gomez in the second round before withdrew from the tournament.

Dimitrov cited an unknown illness as a reason for his decision and what that has meant is his opponent Alex de Minaur has made it to the quarterfinal without having spent too much time on court.

This progression follows a 6-0, 6-1 rout of Alexander Shevchenko in the second round, in a match that lasted a mere 65 minutes. That’s also the sum total of the number of minutes that de Minaur has been on the court to reach the quarterfinal, having earlier earned an opening round bye as well.

De Minaur hadn’t had too much form coming into this tournament since winning the title at the Acapulco Open. He had lost three of the four matches he had played since and while this quarterfinal entry would be a bit of a relief, he would want to start winning matches again.

Tsitsipas v de Minaur Prediction and Tip

This looks to be a bit of a one-sided rivalry and we will have to go with Tsitsipas for multiple reasons – his good record against the Aussie, decent overall form for 2023 and de Minaur’s struggles.
