Carlos Alcaraz v Stefanos Tsitsipas Head to Head

Alcaraz has a perfect 3-0 record against the Greek. The Spaniard won at the U.S. Open in 2021, and in Miami and Barcelona last year.

World no. 2 Carlos Alcaraz stormed into the second straight Barcelona Open final with a 6-2, 6-2 thrashing of Daniel Evans in the semifinal on Saturday.

The defending champion needed just an hour and 20 minutes to defeat the Briton. He was dominant in the first set, breaking Evans twice in the set. He continued to dominate in the second set, racing to a 4-0 lead, but Evans pulled a break back, however, Alcaraz won the last two games to seal the contest.

This is will be Alcaraz’s fourth final of the year. He won the titles in Buenos Aires and Indian Wells and finished runner-up in rio.

The 19-year-old Spaniard will be looking to win his ninth career final on Sunday. Last year, he had won the Barcelona title by defeating Pablo Carreno Busta in the final.

This year, Alcaraz is into the final without dropping a set. He began his campaign with a win over Portugal’s Nuno Borges in the second round before beating a pair of Spaniards in Roberto Bautista Agut and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the third round and quarterfinals respectively.

He will be hoping to further improve his 22-2 season record on Sunday.

Tsitsipas Edges Past Musetti

Second seed Stefanos Tsitsipas kept his perfect record against Lorenzo Musetti intact with a tight three-set win in the semifinal on Saturday.

The Greek had gone into the contest with a 3-0 record against the Italian. This was the third time they needed a deciding set to separate the two. In a two hour and 29 minute battle, Tsitsipas came back from a break point twice to take the first set. He was edged out in the second set though before racing to a 4-0 lead in the final set. Musetti did pull a break back but eventually it was Tsitsipas who held on to the lead to win the match 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.

The world no. 5, who will be playing in the second final of the season following his runner-up finish at the Australian Open, was a finalist in Barcelona in 2018 and 2021, but he is yet to win the title.

Tsitsipas had won his previous three rounds in straight sets. What’s more, he wasn’t even broken in the previous three rounds, beating Pedro Cachin in the second round, Denis Shapovalov in the round of 16 and Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinals respectively.

A nine-time champion, Tsitsipas will be playing his 26th career final on Sunday. Can he win his first title of the season?

Alcaraz has a 3-0 record against the Greek and is also in excellent form. The defending champion will hold the edge. Expect him to win another title in 2023.
