Shelby Rogers v Kaia Kanepi Head to Head
Kanepi leads 2-1 head to head but her first win came in 2014. Over the last two years they have met twice with Rogers winning in Dubai in 2021 and Kanepi in Charleston last year.

Rogers Looking for First Win in Madrid
Knocked out in the qualifying rounds in 2017, Shelby Rogers made back-to-back main draw appearances in Madrid in 2021 and 2022, but the American failed to go past the first round on both the occasions. This year, the world no. 40 will be hoping to win her first main draw match in Madrid.
The 30-year-old brings a 13-9 season record into the tournament.
Rogers’ best this season came in Abu Dhabi, when playing as a qualifier she went on to reach the last eight stage, before falling to Belinda Bencic.
Only twice has she registered consecutive main draw wins this season. One was in Abu Dhabi, the other was in her last tournament in Charleston, where she began with three set wins over Danielle Colins and Caty McNally respectively, but fell in the round of 16 to Bencic in three.
Rogers has never won a title at the tour level but she has featured in three finals, two of which were on clay, but most recently she has had very little success on clay. Can she start with a win in Madrid?

Kanepi Struggling This Year
Kaia Kanepi has struggled to get going this season. The 37-year-old, who was a quarterfinalist in Madrid 10 years ago, is 3-8 this season, with one of those wins coming in the qualifying round in Adelaide-2.
Kanepi is currently on a six-match losing streak and the Estonian’s last victory came on January 10 in the first round of Adelaide-2.
She came very close to winning a match in Miami, but eventually lost a three-set contest against Camila Giorgi. All three sets in that match went into the tiebreak.
Kanepi, ranked 63rd in the world, is 0-1 on clay this year, having played in Charleston in her last tournament. She had a 10-4 record on clay last year. Can she regain form in Madrid?
Rogers v Kanepi Prediction and Tip
Given Kanepi’s form this season, this is expected to be a one-sided affair with Rogers dominating the contest. Rogers has beaten some god players this season and looks set to win her first match in Madrid.
