Muchova In Decent Touch

After an injury-hit 2022 season Karolina Muchova has looked good in 2023.

The Czech, who had fallen out of the top 100 last year, has made considerable gains in the rankings this year. She has been a consistent performer this season, reaching the last eight in Auckland, Dubai and Indian Wells and making it to the third round in Miami.

The 26-year-old will be making her third main draw appearance in Madrid. She was a quarterfinalist on her debut in 2021, but fell in the second round last year.

Muchova has not played a lot on clay at the tour level, but she did reach her maiden final on clay in Prague in 2019, only to finish runner-up.

She has featured in just one more final beside Prague and that was on hard courts in Korea, where she won the title.

Kontaveit Inconsistent During an Injury-Hit Season

After a slow start to the season, Annett Kontaveit got injured during her second round loss in Abu Dhabi. The Estonian came back after a two-month break at the Billie Jean King Cup earlier this month and she will be hoping to regain the sort of form that saw her soar to world no. 2 in June last year.

Kontaveit was sensational in 2021, winning four titles after reaching seven finals and she did a great job in 2022 as well, making it to four finals and winning one title.

But she has not been able to maintain that sort of consistency this year and comes to Madrid with a 5-5 record across levels.

This will be Kontaveit’s fifth main draw appearance in Madrid. Only once has she made the round of 16 and that was in 2021

The 27-year-old, who has slid to no. 87 this year, will be eager to make an early impact in the tournament and build from there on.

Muchova v Kontaveit Prediction and Tip

Muchova has displayed better form this year. She has won matches on a consistent basis and has even been able to lift her game against strong opponents.Expect Muchova to start with a win.
