Popyrin Continues Climb

Alexei Popyrin is slowly but steadily rising the ATP ladder, breaking the top 80 once again, and is now less than 20 spots from his career of No. 59 which he achieved in 2021.

Popyrin had an unforgettable 2022 season that saw him fall as low as No. 127 in May. He won three matches from 17 between June and October last year.

But a run to the Roanne Challenger semifinals towards the end of the season breathed new life into Popyrin who has played some inspired tennis at times this season.

He has made three quarterfinals this year including one on home soil at the Adelaide International. He earned a stunning top-10 win at the Australian Open when he defeated Taylor Fritz in five sets.

The Aussie is 5-3 on clay, scoring notable wins over Dusan Lajovic and Tallon Griekspoor in recent weeks.

Halys Impresses on Clay

Quentin Halys is featuring regularly in ATP events this season after spending most of his years grinding out results and building his ranking on the Challenger Tour.

That hard work has been rewarded bountifully with a rise to a career-high ranking of No. 61, getting direct entry in nearly 90% of ATP events.

Halys has won 11 main draw matches this year which is a personal best. He had previously managed a combined nine in the past eight seasons at Tour level.

A lot of that has to do with his consistent power off the ground and serving immaculately throughout the first four months of the season.

The Frenchman reached his first ATP semifinal in Estoril earning wins over Bautista Agut and Dominic Thiem.

Popyrin v Halys Prediction and Tip

Tih should be an intriguing battle. Both players surprisingly hit their straps on clay. Halys comes off a great run in Estoril and is probably the slight favorite given the formidable list of clay-court players he’s beaten.
