Cristian Garin v Marc-Andrea Huesler Head to Head
Garin and Huesler have never faced off before this in a competitive match before.

Garin Hoping to Continue Taking Strides
It’s been a season to remember for Garin who looked to have fallen off the grid till before this.
Having ended the 2021 season ranked 17th in the world, a woeful 2022 saw the Chilean player slide to 89th before hitting a low of 103rd on the ATP charts in early February this season.
That had come on the back of some very poor performances on the clay courts of the South American swing – a further indication of Garin’s poor form.
Things turned around for Garin in Indian Wells though. Making it to the main draw as a qualifier, he defeated Casper Ruud on his way to the fourth round at that tournament. And he followed it up with a third round appearance in Miami.
Making the switch to the clay swing, Garin then entered the quarterfinal at the Houston Open and repeated the same in Munich as well.
As a result, he has risen to 73rd at the moment. A second round entrant at this tournament last year, he would look to at least get there for starters to defend those points before he can start dreaming big and forge on.

Huesler 1-2 on Clay in 2023
Having played a lot of his clay court tennis last season at the lower circuits, Huesler had ended the year with 20 wins to six defeats on that surface. This included a couple of Challenger titles on clay as well.
And while it’s a different ball-game on the Challengers as compared to the highest level, it does exhibit Huesler’s fondness for the red dirt.
Unfortunately for him, he hasn’t quite made a similar start to the season this year losing in the second round of a Challenger tournament and then going down in his Monte-Carlo Masters opener.
This was followed by a struggling win against Kyle Edmund before Dominic Thiem got the better of him in the second round at Munich. Which means that now coming up against an in-form Garin on clay could be a huge issue for the Swiss player.
