Sorana Cirstea v Lauren Davis Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2013 Hobart International and it was Davis who won it in straight sets.

Cirstea Coming off a Solid Sunshine Show

Cirstea’s consistent inconsistencies towards the end of the previous season and through to the beginning of March this year meant she had fallen to 83rd in the world. And then came such a strong wave of performances from Cirstea she has risen back to 41st (now 44th).

It was at the Indian Wells Open that Cirstea first made the quarterfinals, which included wins over Madison Keys and Caroline Garcia.

And if one thought it was a case of a flash in the pan, Cirstea then repeated her performance against Garcia in Miami, before overcoming Karolina Muchova, Marketa Vondrousova and the big fish in Aryna Sabalenka to reach the semifinal there.

Cirstea hasn’t played since then and her performance on clay last season hadn’t been extraordinary either. After winning three matches at the Istanbul Cup in 2022, Cirstea fell to five defeats from six matches on clay.

Can she shrug that off and dish out another impressive showing in her first match on clay this season?

Davis 8-4 for the Season

Davis has managed to dish out a couple of strong performances this year which includes a title win at the Hobart International while starting out as a qualifier. What now needs to be seen is if she can replicate that success across the European clay court swing.

She hasn’t had the best of starts, having lost to Katherine Sebov at the Charleston Open in the first tournament on clay for the season. That she fell to a player ranked 139th in the world, after having gone a set up might be a concern too.

Last year, however, Davis did come up with some of her better performances on clay.

The American had made the semifinal at the Bastad Open and was a quarterfinalist at both, Budapest and Parma. She now starts off against a player who would come into this one with a lot of confidence but things could even out a tad on clay.

Cirstea v Davis Prediction and Tip

While Cirstea is 3/10 to win this we think it could get a lot closer than that here. Might see a good return on the games handicap market.
