Elina Svitolina v Ashleigh Barty Head to Head
The two players have met each other a total of four times on the WTA Tour since 2017. Svitolina has won all of those matches, with her last win over Barty coming in 2018 Miami Open.
Svitolina’s Relentless Pursuit
Svitolina’s form over the last few weeks has been quite phenomenal, with just two defeats and back to back semifinal appearances. Even before that run of things, she made a strong point in the Australian Open by reaching the quarterfinal.
She started as the fourth seed in Doha and lost ultimately to Simona Halep. Then in Dubai, she had a very similar run and this time, it was Belinda Bencic – the eventual champion – who sent her packing.
Considering her run in Indian Wells, she survived an early scare against Sofia Kenin. She had to battle back after losing the first set and eventually, she managed to secure the win with 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-4.
After that, things got relatively easier for the reigning WTA Finals and Italian Open champion, as she edged past Daria Gavrilova in straight sets.

Barty, who is currently enjoying life as the World No. 12 – her best singles ranking yet – has started this year on a superb note and will look to continue the same here as well.
To begin with, she was the runner-up in Sydney where she made it to the final after dispatching Halep, Elise Mertens, and Kiki Bertens. Then, in the Australian Open, she reached the quarterfinal losing ultimately to Petra Kvitova.
She wasn’t that active in the month of February, playing only in the Fed Cup, where she won both of her singles tie against the American side.
So far in Indian Wells, she hasn’t faced any real problems. With Tatjana Maria and Jennifer Brady as her two opponents, she managed to defeat them rather comfortably in straight sets.
Elina Svitolina v Ashleigh Barty Tips & Predictions
This is going to be a breathtaking encounter that can very well go either way. Both the players have been in a remarkable form of late and have performed superbly so far in Indian Wells. On paper, Svitolina will start as the favourite but expect Barty to show a lot of resilience.
