Paula Badosa v Elisabetta Cocciaretto Head to Head
Badosa and Cocciaretto have never faced off before this.

Badosa 5-2 on Clay This Season
Badosa has been one of those few players on the women’s circuit who has played two clay court competitions at the highest level this season.
She was quick to latch on to her chance of featuring at the Charleston Open where the former world number two made the quarterfinal with three successive wins including one against Leylah Fernandez. It was Jessica Pegula who ended her stay in the tournament.
At the Stuttgart Open played last week, Badosa overcame Daria Kasatkina and Cristina Bucsa in the first two rounds before giving a good fight to her close friend Aryna Sabalenka as well. Sabalenka eventually made it through in three sets.
With Badosa having done well on clay in the past – she has a title at Belgrade and was a quarterfinalist at the 2021 French Open – it would come as no surprise she has begun this well on this surface this season. The former semifinalist here will now hope to go deep again in Madrid too.

Cocciaretto Carves Out a Win over Strycova
Barbora Strycova was playing in her first match in two years and it was no surprise that Cocciaretto was a huge favourite coming into the encounter.
That she needed over two hours to come through was down to Styrcova’s fighting spirit but in the end, Cocciaretto would be chuffed with her continuing good form on clay.
This 6-3, 7-6 (5) win in the opening round followed Cocciaretto’s title victory at the WTA San Luis Potosi, a WTA 125 event she had featured in the last week of March. Cocciaretto did have to save two break-points in the first set before gaining break-points in each of the following three games on her opponent’s serve – breaking her twice.
In the second, Cocciaretto went a break up on two occasions but dropped her serve on both occasions before clinching the tie-breaker from being 1-3 down.
Can she put up a fight against Badosa?
