Oscar Otte v Pavel Kotov Head to Head

Otte and Kotov have never faced off in a match before this.

Otte Struggles Continue to Mount

While Otte will be rather chuffed with his first round win at Barcelona that came over the dirtballer Sebastian Baez, his overall form for the season has been anything but exhilarating.

Otte, who had won the first match of the season at the United Cup earlier this year, followed it up with only two main draw wins coming into the Barcelona Open last week. At the Monte-Carlo he failed to make it through the main draw either, losing to Luca Nardi in the qualifiers.

Which is why, while his victory against Baez was shocking, it did not do too much to change his fortunes around as Otte lost to unfancied Flavio Cobolli in the very next round.

He now starts off a favourite here against the qualifier and that gives him a rare chance to make the second round of a Masters 1000 tournament on clay.

Kotov Makes it as a Lucky Loser after Watanuki Shock

Yosuke Watanuki was 11/10 going into his second qualifying round match against Kotov but still managed to edge past his opponent in a hard-fought three-setter. And while Kotov lost the third set tie-breaker, he still managed to make it to the main draw as a lucky loser.

Kotov will be relieved, especially given he had shown some good form in recent times on clay.

At the Marrakesh Open earlier this month, Kotov was a winner over Pedro Martinez, Benjamin Bonzi and Christopher O’Connell to enter the semifinal. He followed it up by qualifying for the Barcelona Open and making the second round.

Which is why the once-138th-ranked Kotov has gradually climbed up to 101st on the ATP charts now and making it to the main draw on his maiden appearance at the Madrid Masters will allow the Russian player to breathe easier.

Can he now surprise the otherwise-struggling Otte?

Otte v Kotov Prediction and Tip

We think Kotov has a very good chance to make it through here and win his first main draw match on the ATP Masters 1000 series.
