Fucsovics Pursues 2nd Main Draw Win on Clay
Marton Fucsovics got his first main draw win of this year’s clay swing at the BMW Open in Munich this past week, clawing his way from the brink against German teenager Max Hans Rehberg.
Fucsovics was down 4-6 1-4, but produced one of the most remarkable comebacks of the season, saving a couple of match points on his way to a 4-6 7-6 6-3. Considering he was slated at 1/13 to win, it was a major shock how the scoreline ended up, but the Hungarian narrowly escaped.
But there was no escaping his second-round match against the in-form Taylor Fritz who recently reached the Monte Carlo semifinals. Fucsovics won the first set of that match but failed to conjure a single break of serve in the next two sets as the American rallied to win in three.
He will switch his attentions to the Madrid Masters where he has picked up one main draw win in three visits.

Cecchinato Tops Zeppieri to Qualify
Marco Cecchinato saw off compatriot Giulio Zeppieri in straight sets to reach the Madrid Masters main draw. After requiring three sets to knock out Timofey Skatov in the first round of qualifying, Cechcinato overcame fellow Italian Zeppieri in another close tussle.
The first set lasted nearly an hour. Zeppieri was able to fend off five break points, including three set points to force a tiebreak. And despite leading the breaker by what appeared an insurmountable lead (1-5), Cecchinato won six points in a row to snatch it.
Cecchinato kept cranking up the temperature, fashioning two break points in the first game of the second set. And despite Zeppieri’s best efforts to stay on serve, he was broken in the seventh game of the set.
Ceccinato converted his fourth match point to seal his place in the main draw.
