Angelique Kerber v Aryna Sabalenka Head to Head
This is the first time that Sabalenka and Kerber will lock horns on the WTA Tour.
Sabalenka Enjoying Life as the World No. 9
The 20-year-old Sabalenka recently achieved her career-best singles ranking as the World No. 9, following a breathtaking start to the year.
However, she has been laying the groundwork for the same since 2018. She has been working quite hard and her perseverance is finally reaping rewards. The Belarusian was the champion in Connecticut and Wuhan, in addition to a semifinalist in Cincinnati and a quarterfinalist in Beijing.
This year too, she started off strong with a winning run in Shenzhen and eventually built on it with a semifinal showing in St. Petersburg.
In Indian Wells so far, she had to face Ajla Tomljanovic and Lesia Tsurenko, both of whom she defeated without facing any major difficulties.

Kerber Looking to Go the Distance
The former World No. 1 hasn’t won a singles title since the 2018 Wimbledon – a feat that has helped her cement her position in the top 10.
However, given her recent struggles with her form, it may only be a matter of time before she slips out of the top 10. In fact, she started the year as the World No. 2 and has already slipped down to the eighth place.
The level of intensity on the tour has certainly increased this season and Kerber, by the looks of it, has been struggling to keep up with it. For instance, in Sydney and the Australian Open, she lost respectively to Petra Kvitova and Danielle Collins in early rounds.
While she had a breakthrough in Doha where she reached the semifinal, it wasn’t quite enough for Kerber. Even her third round appearance in WTA Dubai didn’t help her case.
Just like Sabalenka, she didn’t face many difficulties in reaching the fourth round in Indian Wells. Her opponents were Yulia Putintseva and Natalia Vikhlyantseva although, in the latter, the German had to surprisingly fight for three sets.
Angelique Kerber v Aryna Sabalenka Tips & Predictions
It is a fixture that can very well go to three sets. Sabalenka has been in a much better form than Kerber of late. However, she lacks the experience and that is something that Kerber can capitalise on. The two players are known for their massive forehand and can definitely push each other to the limits.
Tip: Sabalenka to win in three sets: 4/5 (Bet365)
