J.J. Wolf v Alexander Shevchenko Head to Head
Wolf and Shevchenko have not played each other at any level.

Second Clay Tournament for Wolf
J.J. Wolf is 11-8 for the season with most of his wins coming in the first two months of the season on hard courts. He reached the round of 16 of a Grand Slam for the first time at this year’s Australian Open, losing out to fellow American Ben Shelton.
He then made the semifinal in Dallas, coming within one tiebreak from knocking out John Isner. Wolf then managed a modest two wins from his next four tournaments, his worst run of results this season.
But he turned the tide in her first clay-court tournament of the season, benefitting from a very soft draw in Houston where he reached the quarterfinals. There, he suffered a shock exit at the hands of Gijs Brouwer.
Madrid will be his first tournament on the European clay this year, and just the second in his career. He has previously played in the French Open qualifying back in 2020, so this is very much unchartered territory for him.

Shevchenko Beats Cerundolo to Qualify
Alexander Shevchenko had a tough qualifying route in Madrid, seeing off Antoine Bellier 7-6 7-6 and then knocking out the in-form Juan Manuel Cerundolo 7-6 6-4.
Shevchenko had won the Madrid Challenger a couple of weeks ago but entered Barcelona pretty much gassed. He was completely overwhelmed by Alex de Minaur there, winning just one game in the match.
But he looks to have recovered physically for the Madrid Masters where he’s recorded two solid wins. Against Cerundolo he was at his absolute best from the baseline, crushing ground strokes off the return with the Argentine looking wobbly on serve.
Neither player broke the other’s serve in the first set which went into a tiebreak. There, Shevchenko asserted his dominance taking a 5-3 lead and never looked back.
The second set was just as tight, and after both players exchanged service breaks to start off, Shevchenko established a 3-2 lead by breaking to love. It was the cushion he needed, and despite facing a break point while serving for the match, he sealed his place in the main draw.
Wolf v Shevchenko Prediction and Tip
Shevchenko enters this one as the favorite. He’s the player in form and playing a lot more gusto from the baseline. If Wolf can get his serve firing, he has a fair chance of winning a set.
