2019 has not started off very strong for the Argentine with a third round Australian Open loss and unable to defend his title at Rio, having to pull out with an injury. Schwartzman is coming off a straight sets win in his opener here and will hope to continue his improved showing for the rest of the season.

Schwartzman is a gritty player with relentless desire and can grind any opponent down from the baseline. But, given his opponent is Rafael Nadal on the outdoor hard courts of Indian Wells, it is hard to see Schwartzman grinding him down. Expect a good contest with Nadal winning in straight sets.
