Grigor Dimitrov v Gregoire Barrere Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two with both having won one apiece. Both matches came in 2020 with Barrere winning on the indoor courts of Montpellier while Dimitrov needing just three sets at the French Open.

Dimitrov Hoping to Shrug off a Week to Forget

Dimitrov came into the Barcelona Open last week with hope but ended it hoping he could forget it in a hurry.

It started with Dimitrov getting robbed of his highly expensive watch and he was then forced to retire from his third round encounter against Alex de Minaur because of an illness.

Fortunately Dimitrov is back and fit and ready to play here in a tournament he has typically done well over the years. Last year he had made the third round at the Madrid Masters and before that Dimitrov has made the quarterfinal as well.

Clay, however, isn’t Dimitrov’s most preferred surface but his career win percentage on it is a better than average 58.5%. To give you a context, on hardcourt surfaces, Dimitrov has won 60.3% of his matches, which isn’t a lot higher.

Coming up against Barrere, Dimitrov will think he has a chance.

Barrere Ousts Nava

Barrere was a 1/2 favourite coming up against Emilio Nava in the first round of the Madrid Masters and for a while it looked like he was on his way to living up to those odds too.

A solid rearguard action from Nava pulled things back before Barrere came back to win it in three and make it to the second round at the Madrid Masters for the first time in his career.

In a match lasting an hour and 43 minutes, Barrere registered a 6-0, 5-7, 6-3 win with a minor lapse in focus costing him the second set. In fact, he broke his opponent three times in the first set and once in the third even as he faced just one break-point in the entire match and lost his serve off it.

Now coming up against Dimitrov, Barrere will need to do a lot better than he has on clay in his career (he holds a 4-10 record on it) if he wants to come away a winner.

Dimitrov v Barrere Prediction and Tip

Dimitrov is a huge favourite here but is coming off a fitness concern, so it might be worth looking at some of the other markets for this.
