Hubert Hurkacz v Richard Gasquet Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two which came at the 2021 Dubai Open. Hurkacz had won that in straight sets.

Hurkacz Hoping to Emulate Last Season’s Clay Court Showing

A quarterfinal appearance at both, the Monte-Carlo Masters and Madrid Masters and a fourth round entry into the French Open is what Hurkacz had managed on clay in 2022. This year around, he has started off slowly, with a 2-2 win-loss record on clay so far.

That included a first round defeat in Estoril where Bernabe Zapata Miralles came back from a set down to upset the former world number nine.

Later, Hurkacz would go on to edge out Laslo Djere in three tie-breakers and squeak past Jack Draper in another three-setter at the Monte-Carlo Masters, only to lose to Jannik Sinner in the third.

Clay might not be his most preferred surface but Hurkacz does put up a fighting display every time he is on court, irrespective of which surface he’s playing on. And that gives him an advantage in a match against a struggling veteran who himself isn’t the best on this surface.

Gasquet Blows Past Wildcard Landaluce

All of 17 years of age, Martin Landaluce was awarded a wildcard to feature in this tournament but he was shown reality very quickly.

Gasquet hasn’t been in the best of form recently but even he did not have a lot of trouble to get past Landaluce in their opener. He won 6-2, 6-1 to make it to the second round of the Madrid Masters, much like he has done in all but one of his appearances at this tournament since 2006.

The problem for Gasquet is he hasn’t won too much more than that, making round three on just three occasions over these many years.

Add that to the fact that the Frenchman was 9-9 on win-loss coming into this tournament and you know he hasn’t had the best of times, especially after having begun the season with a title win in Auckland.

Can Gasquet now test Hurkacz?

Hurkacz v Gasquet Prediction and Tip

Hurkacz is a favourite at 1/4 but it could be a closer contest than that which gives an opportunity to look at the games handicap market.
