Carlos Alcaraz v Emil Ruusuvuori Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two and it was played in 2021 in Miami. Ruusuvuori had edged out Alcaraz in three sets.

Alcaraz Returns after Barcelona Title

The defending champion here and a winner last week at the Barcelona Open, Alcaraz will be hoping to continue with his run as he takes to court for his second round encounter.

Alcaraz, who is 23-2 for the season and has won 13 of the 14 matches on clay this year, will be gunning for his fourth title of 2023 when he kick-starts his campaign at Madrid 2023. And he looks like a red-hot favourite.

In the absence of Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner, there aren’t a lot of players left in the draw who can challenge Alcaraz on clay either. It could be a matter of Alcaraz having an off day against someone who is having one of his best recent days if the Spaniard has to go down.

And that’s exactly what Ruusuvuori will be hoping for when he faces Alcaraz in this match as he look to dismantle a player who is coming off straight-set wins over Stefanos Tsitsipas, Dan Evans, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Roberto Bautista-Agut on his way to winning the Barcelona Open title.

Alcaraz will be a tough nut to crack.

Ruusuvuori Squeaks Past Humbert

It took Ruusuvuori over two hours and two tie-breakers to make it past the Frenchman Ugo Humbert in his opening win here.

Ruusuvuori saved a set-point in the first set and then converted his first set-point there and a first match-point in the second set to carve out a place in round two of the competition.

In a rather cagey encounter where neither player gave the other an inch, both faced two break-points apiece and were broken one time apiece. This came in the opening set, before they settled into a serving rhythm that saw them win 26 and 27 points respectively on their serve.

It was in the tie-breaker that the Miami Masters quarterfinalist forged ahead to seal for himself a place in round two.

Can he test the world number two?

Alcaraz v Ruusuvuori Prediction and Tip

Alcaraz is a whopping 1/20 to win this and that’s exactly what he should do and in straight sets too. The games handicap of +6.5 could even things out for Ruusuvuori.
